I need help guys. I've started reading stuff in the original language to avoid translations, and I can read through most things in the languages I know. My problem isn't with comprehension, but with the ideas/words staying in my mind. For example, I can follow perfectly what's going on in a scene, but when I reflect on it my brain isn't able to approximate the exact wording like if I were reading in my native language. Key lines of dialogue or poetic verse don't stay with me like if I were reading in English, though I know what's going on in the moment. Is there a way to fix this besides just reading painfully slowly?

It's been a true shitshow, anon.

Spent two years writing a huge historical fiction novel, only to realize I didn't think I was good enough yet to tell the story I wanted to so I put it away. Realizing that I still had a ways to go before I could handle a story like that was a really positive moment for me and the decision to just put away something I had spent so much time on was cathartic. I used that shit to jump into something new and I blazed through it in only a few months. It's not that big, only about 250 pages and it is nowhere near as expansive as the first story. It's neat and tidy and exactly what a first novel should be.

Problem is, once I finished I couldn't bring myself to give a shit about editing and it has just been sitting there, untouched. I love the story and I love the characters, but I just can't fucking do it. I can't really bring myself to write anything else either. I've just been stagnant and it is driving me fucking crazy.
