Are there any good works of literature where the narrative mode alternates between chapters?

For example, the first chapter might start with with a past tense first person, and then events in that chapter naturally lead to the next chapter being told from a first person perspective from one of the characters in the previous chapter?

I know it sounds lame, but I have always hated reading. However, I was recently turned onto 1984 and I could not put it down, I absolutely loved it.

So I figured I should come to /lit/ for a possible answer; where should I go from here? Can anyone recommend me another book that is the of the same sci-fi-ish genre, but doesn't end up ridiculous in some fashion?

Hello, /lit/
My friend sent me a story, if you can call it that, which he called the "pinnacle of literature".
Here goes.
Once Upon a Forgotten Lore
By Alison Taylor
Chapter one: My Background

Hello my name is Raven Jenkins. I have amethyst violet eyes, raven
black hair, and my skin is pale white. I am fourteen years old. It is
thirty-first st century. I live in the ousters of New LA and many
people thought New LA is one of those high class cities. Well it’s not
for people like me. I had been in and out foster homes faster than you
can say Edgar Allen Poe, who by the way I admire, just because I’m not
what they expected. They expect me to be one of those girly girls
where you play with dolls and play dress up. I’m what you say to one
of girls you call Goths. I have survived the Rise of the Gangs years
which by the way killed more than two hundred thousand people in the
last five year. You now being a Goth human is not bad as I thought it
would be, but ever time I come up to some one the just run away. My
only friends are my pet one great horned owl Alison and a ghost girl
from old earth I‘m guessing the 18th century named Rebecca and yes I
see ghost. That is one of my biggest reasons for being in and out of
foster homes. I am always being made fun of at school by a boy named
Michel Jenkins who happens to be my new foster brother, he is also
fourteen years old and adopted. He is a Ratdiod. A cross between a
human and a rat, and one of the few only survivors of Old Earth. My
older sister Gwen, who is about seventeen, is so narcissus, yeah I
mean all she can think about herself and one the worst parts is she is
actually blood related to the Jenkins. Gwen once said, “Mom why can’t
Raven be more like me.”
She actually said that and was in the room.
Then I said, “Hey we all can be D-U-M-B like you.”

Well, I've got 7k+ words in a novella about a single father, Rich, attempting to raise his paraplegic six year old in an open minded and loving home away from his psychotic ex who is a religious nut. He's broke and they have only the basic amenities, but he dotes on his son as often as he can. His buddy Allen has a six year old as well, and he struggles with not being able to relate in any way to his son, and he's a bit overbearing. His wife deals with acutely low self esteem, and it causes a rift because Allen can't help but make jibes at her when he's drunk. To complicate things further, he rapes a girl when he thinks shes giving him signals that she wants it from him, when he just misinterprets and sticks it in.

Also, the return of Ouroboros. So yeah.

He had wandered into a maze of narrow and dirty streets. From the foul laneways he heard bursts of hoarse riot and wrangling and the drawling of drunken singers. He walked onward, dismayed, wondering whether he had strayed into the quarter of the Jews. Women and girls dressed in long vivid gowns traversed the street from house to house. They were leisurely and perfumed. A trembling seized him and his eyes grew dim. The yellow gas-flames arose before his troubled vision against the vapoury sky, burning as if before an altar. Before the doors and in the lighted halls groups were gathered arrayed as for some rite. He was in another world: he had awakened from a slumber of centuries.

I try not to focus on asinine shit. I have my opinion in regard to the aforementioned books, and I understand and accept there are opinions other than my own. What is the issue?

Could someone please present with evidence that's she's intelligent other than the fact her porn name is a reference to an incredibly well known story, which she probably took from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie
Adding, she's not that attractive. She's covered in cups of her saliva and the seamen of five different men. In OP's pic, she's a 5.5/10

Does anyone know of any good non-fiction/fiction stories from Sweden?

Not the one about the Girl and her Dragon Tattoo.

Something different. But Swedish. Translated into English.

Thanks, /lit/bros

Dear /lit/, quick question.
Since there is such a huge shitstorm brewing with the release of Katawa Shoujo, where does /lit/ think visual novels should be placed?
/a/, /v/, and /jp/ have all denied them.
As far as I know nobody has posted about it here, even though visual novels are still technically novels.
Pic semi related.

Of Mice and Men. It's a little overrated, but it was simple and enjoyable, and it easily captured the attention of a kid (me) who regularly reads fantasy.
Other than that, I would hide a decent book in Scarlet Letter and To Kill a Mockingbird when the class was reading, and then go to Sparknotes to catch up.

I read the series, stopped at the third. . . when i was fourteen. Eragon is an awful character: a mean, selfish hypocrite who didn't listen to half the shit his master/dad said. I liked Murtagh, the only decent character in the series.
Paolini was an awful writer who rewrote Star Wars though LoTR. His prose are awful, his story full of ass-pulls, and unanswered questions. The only reason he was published was because his parents were his publishers. Also:
Eragon = Luke Skywalker
Galbitorix = Darth Vader
Brom = Obi-wan
Oromis = Yoda
Arya = Lya
Riders = Jedi
Murtagh = Anakin (a bit of stretch)
Roran = Hon Solo (maybe, he's kind of cool)
Saphira = Millennium Falcon

Ok, im not even sure what to think now. I stumbled across this poem writeen by ella wheeler wilcox.

Im not sure if i'm going full retard here, or it is actually difficult to understand. I looked for 3 hours trying to find why the poem was written in the first place but couldn't find anything. DOES ANYONE KNOW!

To sit in silence when we should protest
Makes cowards out of men. The human race
Has climbed on protest. Had no voice been raised
Against injustice, ignorance and lust
The Inquisition yet would serve the law
And guillotines decide our least disputes.
The few who dare must speak and speak again
To right the wrongs of many. Speech, thank God,
No vested power in this great day and land
Can gag or throttle; Press and voice may cry
Loud disapproval of existing ills,
May criticise oppression and condemn
The lawlessness of wealth-protecting laws
That let the children and child-bearers toil
To purchase ease for idle millionaires,
Therefore do I protest against the boast
Of independence in this mighty land.
Call no chain strong which holds one rusted link,
Call no land free that holds one fettered slave
Until the manacled, slim wrists of babes
Are loosed to toss in childish sport and glee,
Until the Mother bears no burden save
The precious one beneath her heart; until
God's soil is rescued from the clutch of greed
And given back to labour, let no man
Call this the Land of Freedom.

>mfw I actually started reading this to the 3rd or 4th page.

Ok for those of you who want to know the story goes like this.

>kid opens closet
>falls into another dimension
>in other dimension shit is psychedelic colored eg orange sky, red leaves, purple grass, ect.
>tree traps him in a sap-trap
>he argues with the tree about how he isn't a cat.

Sounds like your trying to re-write alice in wonderland dude. Seriously even when I was ignoring the fact that you don't know english grammar and punctuation rules, the story itself is still really bland and just outright stupid. Looks like something someone would write in middle-school as a joke to pass around to their friends.
