Hey /lit/,

which philosopher framed their understanding of god as the sound/image of the ocean's receding waves? I remember my prof suggesting it as a way of reading the final scene in Infinite Jest but now I've lost it. Spinoza? Kant, or Hume maybe?

I'm writing about waterways in Mann's "Death in Venice" and this is kind of the capstone to my thesis, so I'd really appreciate your help!

Thanks,

-Anon
