seriously no recommendations for scifi books?

are they not /lit/ enough for this boards tastes?

I didn't really like it. I wanted to, I'd heard a lot of very good things about it. I just couldn't.

Has anyone in /lit/ read the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons? I just finished the 4th and last book and flippin loved it. Any other opinions?

What does /lit/ think of the Hyperion series?

I'll second Hitchhiker's guide and The Stranger. Don Quixote is lighthearted and often funny.

I also found Hyperion pretty funny and really absorbing, so that could work.

I realize these are not the same genre (at least 1984 and 1989), but I'm wondering whether to go for Neuromancer or Hyperion.

/lit/ seems to like both, but which is more significant to modern literature/culture, and which is just the most fun?

I would just do small naps. Write stuff when your laying down and philosophize.

Once you get these works for like a month, try to combine some of these thoughts onto a condensed version like a page. I've never done this very well, nor do i write professionally, but i do have admiration for the person aforementioned and understand the balance between a pencil firefight and temperance

I've seen a shit load of gore, watched tones of gory movies and play a ton of violent and bloody games, but nothing has disturbed me as much as the image of Pual Dure being crucified to an electric tree for 7 years with a thing inside him that kept him alive as he was constantly burnt and electrocuted for 7 fucking years straight, god damn that was disturbing.

Pic related, I'm only up to page 100 but this book is amazing.

So /lit/, do you agree with me when I say this is one of the best fiction books ever released? It's a shame it will get a bad name because of its upcoming film adaptation.

I need some suggestions /lit/.

I haven't really read much Science Fiction in the past ten years or so, and I'd like to go back to it now. As a result I'd appreciate some reading suggestions.

Now of course I am not speaking only about books that have come out in the past ten years. There's more Sci-Fi novels on this earth than one man could read in his entire life, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Also - I have indeed read the Wikia article for SciFi suggestions. I have recognized a lot of the books on that list; however, due to the fact that almost all of them are bereft of a plot synopsis I can't very well find the argument as to why I should read them compelling. Of course I could always just go and read about them one at a time, but that's a chore. I'd much rather hear what you'd personally recommend to me in a few sentences about why I should read it. Assuming I haven't already.

I am fairly new to your board, but I would like some advice. I have just finished reading this novel, and it ends something like this:

Ok, so my question is, how far into this do I need to go to get a reasonable wrap up to the intitial story? Is Fall of Hyperion sufficient, or should I also get Endymion also? Thanks in advance.
