I'm not Brian. I'm just a good reader.

Despite the books getting progressively weaker, the later Frank Herbert Dune books look like masterpieces compared to the Brian Herbert/Kevin J Anderson garbage.

After attempting a reread of the 5 Dune sequels, I think Dune Messiah is decent. The rest aren't essential and I doubt I'll reread them again, though they're all better than the crap that followed.

I suspect that Brian Herbert has little to do with the newer Dune books, and his name is just there to lend some air of legitimacy and get them shelved alongside the real Dune books. Kevin J Anderson probably does most or all of the writing.

the first six were by Frank Herbert.

the Dune Encyclopedia came out after book 4 and was written by a group of Frank Herbert's friends. he said it wasn't canonical.

all of the prequels were written by his son along with that other fucktard, and took a thoughtful, considered universe and turned it into a sandpit filled with giant robot battles and supervillain one-liners you wouldn't hear coming out of Michael Bay's asshole.

Read at least Dune and Dune Messiah. Messiah deflates much of what you might have thought was being built up in Dune.

If you like them, read the other Frank Herbert books. Don't bother with any of the non-Frank ones.

Whatever you think of it, it's a hell of a lot better than the Brain Herbert/Kevin J. Anderson prequels/sequels/etc.

one of Frank Herbert's shopping lists would be better than anything Brian Herbert and that other fuck could ever possibly come up with.

seriously. Frank Herbert's characters had a depth that Brian could never match.

i owned two of the dune prequels. they were so awful that i left them on a table in a nearby park, to allow the gentle rain to destroy them slowly.

preachy? wait until you get to book 3. look, the whole thing was inspired by an article Frank Herbert was writing on desert ecology. if it had been an article about buttsex it would have been called "Hole" and you'd STILL be complaining it was too preachy.

i studied journalism up to the point where one of the students asked about journalistic ethics.

"You poor, sad BASTARDS!" our teacher sneered.

fuck this shit. i'm working in a plastics factory now. i may be poisoning the environment but at least i'm not chasing people who just lost a child to a murdering rapist and asking the parents "how do you feel?"

pic related, it's one of the few journalists i ever respected.
