There's the notable and discussed debate about how AI is an initially academic field that has been - unlike other subfields - stolen from academia in the sense that the research is now happening at companies (google etc.) Conventially companies have a more engineering outlook on technology - you use what you know works for minimization of losses. But AI research and published papers come out of the Google labs etc.

What I want to say is that maybe you shouldn't search for philsophy at unis either.
