To Dostoevsky, America was a souless place where people die metaphysically upon arrival (he wrote about this in his diaries). In the sense of Svidrigailov, it meant dying literally since he was already lost. America is a sort of Hell, and as a burger I 100 percent agree.

I've read a handful of books and wrote a chorus to a song. I haven't written anything because I keep going into the cynical cycle that I will never create something unique, I am on the shoulders of giants without any originality, even the idea I am typing out now isn't original. How can I create anything that isn't just a regurgitation of something I've consumed before? It's not like a manifesto or a the handful of novel's I've started will be good/successful/interesting.

A lot like when writing music, I find it hard to go back to a previous project that I had given up on. I have about 3 different stories, each of them about 40 pages in, and I just can't.

It's mostly only the major cities such as New York, Dallas and Los Angeles. However the whole state of California has the trifecta of issues plaguing America: a massive bureaucracy, large-scale degeneracy and unchecked levels of immigration, all of which support and strengthen one another. Outside of the cities it's starting to trickle down. Hedonism is very big in the suburbs, while in the poor drug addiction is a major problem. Minority communities like Chicago or Southern Texas are nothing like the rest of America.

I wrote it for a thread describing pic related, so maybe that's why it seems overly specific/try hard. I think the references to flatness and lack of perspective make sense with the context of the picture, I could probably stretch them into some theme on superficiality in consumer culture if I wanted to, but as you said that's a little played out.
