If you want a perfect example of the Soviet Aggression that promoted German fears, look at the Spanish Civil War, where through Soviet Agents systematically purged the Republican Factions, so that the only ones left where loyal to Moscow.
This famously happened to George Orwell, who's faction he was in came under the scope of the Soviets, and he was forced to flee under immediate threat of his life.
This sort of coercive politics was also seen throughout the West in Europe and the Americas.
