Is it realistic that everything they talk about is so superficial? They are rich and well educated I thought those types in the 80s were talking about the merits of communism or something

This book is the most hilarious thing I've read in ages.
>"Sure" I think about Courtney's legs, spread and wrapped around my face, and when I look over at Luis in one brief, flashing moment his head looks like a talking vagina and it scares the bejesus out of me, moves me to say something while mopping the sweat off my brow. "That's a nice...suit, Luis." The farthest thing from my mind.

How do I write like this?

Finished American Psycho last night lads, and watched the film straight after. Now I'm confused. Is Patrick Bateman actually a murderer? Or is it all happening inside his head?

Is the point of the book that everyone else is so caught up in their own materialistic lives, they don't notice a serial killer amongst them even when he admits it to their faces?

Or is he just a schizo who's imagining the entire thing? I thought it was a brilliant book anyway, one of the first American novels I've read.
