How could they be laughing? They were tearing away his very flesh as they ate him alive. The pain was unspeakable. The people around were having a laugh at his pain, the flesh was mixed with the seasonings onto the plate, the muscle still moving, the blood still there. The person with the slant eyes laughed as she tasted my flesh, and the smile on her face was an assault on me: she was happy even though my flesh was decaying, was being devoured while I was alive? Could I ever forgive them? Could I be innocent and oblivious enough to say "Forgive them, father, for they know not what they do?" So we all agree now that non-fiction = understanding, learning and improving one's intellect, while fiction = aesthetic appreciation, patrician entertainment, delight in am artistic representation of language etc?
