Basically this. Is it worth reading the original trilogy? Do I really need to get into the sequel and prequel trilogies? Is it worth a shot nowadays or is it just outdated sci-fi? I bought the original six Dune books recently and wanted to start them, but I came across the Everyman’s Classics book of the Foundation Trilogy which is pretty short for three books, and figured if I should go through that first. Is there even any story and character exploration, or does it revolve to Asimov’s proto-fedora self-insertion?

>In 1966, the Foundation trilogy beat several other science fiction and fantasy series to receive a special Hugo Award for "Best All-Time Series".

Is this really the best the genre had to offer at the time?
