Lit threads on economics are always a joy.

OP asks about books, but I think you should get a feel for what modern day economists actually do, then branch off to other schools. Read a pop intro (Undercover economist trilogy is pretty good). Read an intro microeconomics textbook (if you're not afraid of stats add in an intro econometrics textbook - you can try intro macro as well, but basic macro is very different from high level macro), then read the Journal of Economic Perspectives articles which sound interesting to you. These are free articles written by leaders of subfields on a basic level. You can try to start with these, some of them are really accessible. Then you can read history of economic thought (e.g. Worldly philosophers) to see the progress and remaining issues. These also provide reccs to some further reading. Then you can read intros to the heterodox schools (neoricardian, postkeynesian, austrian etc). Now you will understand what they're critizing.

Don't read pop antieconomics, it's usually stale ("economists are bad, but behavioural/new institutional/new keynesian (completely different from postkeynesian) are good. Let's have a revolution!" In reality each of those are incorporated into the field).

Currently economics is an overwhelmingly empirical field, the only social science that takes stats and causality seriously. It has the highest reproducibility rate amongst the social sciences (which is not a high bar, but still).

When dealing with multiple enemy armies from different fronts the best thing you can do is keep them from engaging. It's not retreat sometimes just field placement heh, start giving them better reasons to fight each other. Then stroll in whistling after your afternoon tea (with army behind you) and kindly remind them the sign on the yard says no solicitors. Give them time to save face and run away.

There was an old book about Japanese POW's in which a man bartered and sold out his fellow captives for a better lifestyle. It was a rather good book but I think nowadays the man might use his training to turn them into a small army and conquer the little town. Just saying he left that book with little to no respect and I don't blame the author for that 1 bit. The dude was just waiting around for the war to end and feeding people rat meat he bred. Would be nice if they'd like found him and the pow's all fed and waiting to enter the war again with new spies/weapons.

Okay so perhaps some kids/pets that are full of energy or have adhd or full of sugar need to be put on a leash when going out of the house before taking their collars off or going to a theme park, some little tykes/hounds are a bit too interested in things and unable to sniff and detect and bite and lick everything until you can find them again huh? Why do straight men and women seem to dislike porn sooo much I wonder? From a clinical perspective it hardly makes any sense at all without trying to dig in real deep I suppose. The best Connection I can try to make is the feelings I would have on the subject considering how much one of the best parts of sex is seeing the face of the woman and stuff like this. It seems somewhat... gay to want to enjoy another man's pleasure when one is sexually aroused. It is not so much a selfish desire of it's ALL mine nearly as much as " Why shouldn't I have a few moments of enjoyment to myself without other men around, it actually disgusts me when I think of their biological functions when committing the act. This is probably why I often do not understand why some would ever find me attractive :/. A subconscious sexual understanding of some disguised disgust with oneself or others not exactly… It's stupidness to the extreme degree to some I suppose. It disturbs me to the umpteenth degree when I see other men getting off and it enters the part of my brain related to sexuality or penis or w/e. I do not enjoy the picture of a cock in my face. So if women look at me and I do not enjoy it I would find it hard to understand exactly why they would I suppose. If I Watch porn I need to try really hard to put myself in someone else's shoes or It feels as though I were somehow doing it for their pleasure. Only someone with bi or gay tendencies is able to understand why watching another man getting off would excite them. If one were a psychic this could be a disaster! Constantly jumping into other people's shoes to try and fill a void of absolutely needed ignorance just to try and produce a needed chemical reaction for trying to stay healthy mind or brain do to biological imperitives we are unable to control, requiring extreme training to try and manage not doing it so often or for so many hours : (.
