Can someone please explain to me how to summarize the first chapter of this book?
It is so overwhelming to me.

I want to read really engrossing, page turning nonfiction that isn't shit.

No Outliers, no Henrietta Lacks, none of that shit.

Pic related, it's what my friend recommended, and I've heard of it before, but I'm worried it's shit. Is it good?

Or do you have any other recommendations?

General history recommendation?

Because of a shitty public education in the subject (and deplorable lack of effort on my part up until now) I know very little about important human cultures/civilizations/milestones. Any good general history/anthropology books you would recommend?

Pic related, I'm about to read it

Its only kinda related, but I suggest you or anyone else interested in why some cultures developed so much technology, and some cultures did not, should go read "Guns, Germs, and Steel" by Jared Diamond. It was also made into a pbs documentary, so you can just torrent that and watch it, but the book is better, so much more in depth.

It cites examples and clearly explains diffferences in cultures, and how they came to be, and how they are not due to any inate racial superiority or inferiority, but due to the natural resources available to them at the time.

This book will change your views on science, history, philosophy, and anthropology simultaneously, and it's a great read.

hey /lit/,

My summer job starts soon, and i'm trying to get a good reading list together. I'm a lifeguard, so I have lots of time to kill. I'm open to most stuff, but i'm looking for books that are very narrative.

The 2 books that i've already decided on are "East of Eden" and "Travels With Charley" because Steinbeck is awesome.

pic related: its the third book i've decided on. It's not very narrative, but i loved it the first time i read it, so i'd like to read it again
