I recently read Shogun and Tai Pan by clavell and I was looking for more well-researched historical asian fiction (or nonfiction, really). Feudal japan/china are fascinating to me.

Books where you were pissed when you were done reading them, for the sole reason that it was over and there wasn't any more to read.

I just finished Shogun. I am a really slow reader, which I don't really mind as I have a much easier time retaining information than my speed reading friends, and I think I get more out of what I read at a slow pace.
That fucking book... I never intended to love it as much as I did. Funny thing is, the writing wasn't particularly good, his prose almost nonexistent, but damn could Clavell weave a story and its characters beautifully. This 1100 page book took me forever to finish, and I wish I had another 1100 left to read. I'm so sad that it is over.

Now I have to figure out what in the fuck I am going to read next. I heard the rest of Clavell's Asian Saga isn't quite as good as Shogun.

James Clavell: Weeaboo garbage?

I'm currently reading Shogun. I'm enjoying it in a very limited way, but I'm only 1/10th of the way through and it's hard to imagine reading another 900 pages of Clavell's plodding prose and
tedious dialogue (if I hear "so sorry," "Christ Jesus!' or "Piss on that!" one more time, I fuckin swear I'll commit seppukku.)

Does it get better? Should I continue on or just give it up?

Again, epic meaning scope and not coolness, and avoid medieval fantasy if you would be so kind.

Recommend me some epic novels /lit/. Not epic as on "ZOMGSUPERAWESUM!!!!11" but epic as in a vast scope. Preferably not medieval fantasy if you can help it.
