It's too early to say. Currently, I think Settembrini might be a reflection of either the author himself or a stereotype of the literary figures at the time.

Perhaps when my exams are done, I will have a look at some past short stories or essays. That might be a good start if you wanna make educated guesses. I'm cautious to look at any actual analysis at this point as I want to form my own opinion.

Surely, some people have read all the books, no?

As for the leisure argument, I find it silly. I enjoy reading but I wouldn't call it leisurely. I still have to focus and think critically. I'm unsure how I can view something that at times challenges the way I think as a walk in the park.
