I'd recommend Boethius' "The Consolation of Philosophy" Basically, the whole book is Boethius, while in prison and sentenced to death, trying to make sense out of evil why it is happening and the idea of goodness, why we should be good, and so on. It is religious and Christian but the whole religious thing is more subtle and almost nonexistent in Boethius than it is in say St. Augustine. If you want classical religious texts on this then read St. Augustine's "Confessions" or "The City of God"

Could anyone here tell the story of the 2012/2013 NYC /lit/ meetup at the White Horse Tavern?

Books written in prison or about prison. I like Boethius's The Consolation of Philosophy.
