Where have all the good writers gone? The writers whose works seemed superhuman and godly? Who can create characters with complete humanity, who can write books to be talked of centuries hence. Why isn't there any Shakespeare, Cervantes, Dante, or Joyce today? I doubt it's because of the crap publishing industry; a beyond-earthly writer would be able to transcend any publishers.

What is the appeal of being an academic and doing nothing but writing about and translating other authors? It's essentially recognizing you will never measure up to the greats and resigning to living in their shadow instead.

The only books you need in English are the Canterbury Tales, Shakespeare's works, and the Bible (Douay-Rheims version).

Everything else worthwhile is written in Latin, Greek, German, or Italian.

I was reading the Bible and at Matthew 9 12

,,But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.''

The way Jesus responds is incredible and I would like to learn to speak the way he was speaking, not with abstract words, but with a parable, analogy, simile, metaphor, metonymy. I like the way Shakespeare characters are speaking or how G.K. Chesterton is writing making his point or The Beauties of Shakespeare by Dodd William Rev were that way of talking is present and I wonder if there is a book that can teach me this kind of way to talk?

and was he truly the greatest writer to live so far, at least in the Occidental world, in your opinion of course? Better than Homer, Dante, Goethe?
