Mystery recommendations thread

Other than Christie, Carr, Dine, Ellery, etc.

I dislike modern settings, i'd like to read story set around 1900-1945. So basically Golden Age. Closed room murder mysteries and closed circles (isolated island, isolated mountain cotton, etc) are what i like the most.

So, /lit/ i'm looking into a particular type of sci-fi novels.

First, it has to be long. I want a long, epic space opera.

Second, and most important, i want the "mystery".

I'll explain myself better, i want something like Xenosaga or Hyperion, the feeling that the universe is a big place and you haven't see anything, that there is "magic" out of there and something invisible is pulling the strings.

I don't like sci-fi like Mass Effect or Star Wars (to give an example)

So, any suggestion?
