Why did Harrogate fuck the watermelons? I just don't fucking get it.

What does /lit/ think about Suttree? How does it compare to Blood Meridian?

I hate this goddamned book cover it's so boring and has nothing to do with the story

God, why is this so difficult to read. I can barely folllow what's happening.

So what the fuck did the ending mean? Was the entire book an allegory for death and the afterlife? There's so much symbolism in this book that it has to have some underlying meaning.

I just finished this. This is a masterpiece.

Thoughts? Is this the best book by Cormac?

Read this and loved it. I doubt any of his other work will get close. It was perfect to read while suicidal. Tried Blood Meridian and dropped it. It was boring and very overrated.

What's his best book and why is it Suttree?

I'm at the part where Suttree got a nice, big Thanksgiving dinner for the City Mouse. Lovely book.

We had a good discussion about Suttree a few days ago. I personally found it hard to keep up with the characters because of their names

Has anyone read this? I think its unfairly characterized as a departure from Cormac McCarthy's style, when in actuality it was published before McCarthy had a definitive style at all.

Anyway, I think its his best work. Even surpassing Blood Meridian, and the Road (even though No Country for Old Men is better than both of those IMO). It is an American Ulysses and it furthers the argument that Cormac McCarthy is the best living author.
