The Stoics have helped me more than clinical psychotherapy ever has, even with the dogmatism and wonky (meta)physic.

The end of ad Lucillium no. 6 really got me:
>"What progress, you ask, have I made? I have begun to be a friend to myself." That was indeed a great benefit; such a person can never be alone. You may be sure that such a man is a friend to all mankind.

Really meaning that is one of the hardest things I've ever tried to do.
As a recovering NEET, even with some of the enormous progress I've made into trying to make something of my life, I find it hard to cut myself any slack or forgive myself for the things I've done (or failed to do) when all I can see is how far away I still am from any of my goals...

Does /lit/ have any literary recommendations or advice for practical mental/spiritual ascesis, Stoic or otherwise, for this sort of thing?
