poetry was used in ancient times as a way to facilitate the memorization of some informations, laws and prayers, for instance. turns out it's beautiful and witty sometimes, so yeah, it's art. just like pottery and a vase not used for holding water. it's just pleasant, and you can draw pretty pictures on it or something. maybe something deep or sacred.
