this is prob. the Cormac McCarthy book that hit me the hardest. blood meridian is beautiful but this one was more accessible for me. it's beautiful, ugly, grotesque and throughout there's a real sense of dread and helplessness. an incestuous relationship between a brother and sister leads to a baby being born but when they lose that baby, the sister goes in an attempt to find it.

honestly if anyone is taking notes for book to film adaptations, Outer Dark would be a good pick. reading it will ruin your fucking week. 10/10

Why is this book never talked about on here?

I've read The Road, Blood Meridian, All the Pretty Horse, and No Country for old men. I picked this up because I was looking for something to read and never heard of it before. It is easily better then all the previously mentioned novels.

Blood Meridian seems over-graphic and convoluted and is uncomfortable to read at most parts, but Outer Dark has the type of prose that causes catharsis.

The prose are most similar to The Road, but way more atmospheric.

Anybody else read this treasure and agree it is underrated?
