Books, as a medium, are overrated. Physical books are no better than a blog or social media account for dispensing thought and philosophy and art and whatever else you want. High literature can be found in many formats. Not just books. Books are just one way to consume a message.

Freud said that narcissism rises from a conflict between the superego and the ego, basically that you had bad parents -- either you were made to look inferior to them or they put you on a pedestal, so your superego can never control your ego.

The superego or logos is supposed to represent the strength of the father, a.k.a god, and that's supposed to keep you in check.

What book talks about this?

The word 'Holocaust' originates in the concept of sacrifice.

Was it some sort of Germanic/Celtic religious ritual to fuel the war? The wicker man burned victims for spiritual reasons. The Nazis studied the esoteric.

What are the most disturbing books youve ever read? Something that left a scar in your mind?

Even Nietzsche couldn't do it.

Personally I can't settle for just one thing. I feel that reading is the patrician's hobby, with literature being such a great medium of expression that opens unparallelled avenues for thought and creativity. For thousands of years, humans have been expressing themselves through writing, reaching into the farthest corners of their mind to come up with engaging myths, stories and reflections that have endured for generations. Nothing beats the feeling of just diving into a hardcover classic and experiencing everything it has to offer.

What do you like the most about reading? Do you just read books for the plot or more for their artistic merits and for the sake of being more cultured and well-rounded?

Started with the Greeks, resumed with the Romans, read the Biblie, the Divine Comedy, the Decameron, Beowulf, the Canterbury Tales and Shakespeare. Where do I go from here?

This month I read 200 pages per day on average. I only manged to read 9 books. At this pace I will read about 100 books this year.
In 40 years I will have read 4000 books. That's not even a glimpse of what human literature has to offer.
How do I cope with my limitations?
