I have been having trouble focusing on books recently because I have an overwhelming sense of wasting my life

Post some instance, and source where the writer made you take a breather and step back.

>some Spartan specops operator in the METRO series pulls his suppressed Stechkin and turns off the loudly whining autistic kid, so as not to blow their cover

Has literature ruined anyone else? The more fiction I read, the more cynical and distrusting of people I become. I never used to "analyze" before, but now I'm always thinking about people's state of mind. It's gotten to such a point that I can hardly maintain any type of relation with anyone without thinking that they actually despise me or find me overbearing.

I can't figure out which religion is correct and it's testing me apart inside.

Books for this feel?

I hated reading in school so I've only started exploring the canon as an adult, and no matter how much I read I can't shake the feeling that there's always more essentials to cover. There are so many literary disciplines and genres, is it even possible to sample them all? How deep does the rabbit hole go?

I unironically believe all people are LARPing, all politics are LARP, all philosophy is LARP, all personalities are LARP, all art is LARP, and fundamentally there is no such thing as "genuine" or "authentic", its merely an illusion. Those who are called "fake" are just bad at LARPing. What books talk about this?

I need a book to tell me all this is not real. That it is just a sensory illusion or something like that. I get worked up over things and get anxious and start drinking and stuff like that. Tell me that nothing matters.

Some nigger over here earlier recommended me Straw Dogs, I want something that deals with things on a more personal level.

books on being haunted by your past, those in the past who have perceived you and passed their own versions of who you are along to other people, meaning you'll never truly be free from the mistakes you've made?

Hi /lit/, so I've read a very read a book which tends to towards philosophy about 3 years ago. Someone asked me what it's about and I couldn't recall all and ofc not the thoughts and findings I had during reading, which is completely normal in my opinion. Some things stay some thing pop up when you need them. Turns out he read the book and called me a poser for saying I've read it. I feel treated wrong and I don't know what to do in this situation. This person clearly has some ego problems but I dunno how to deal with it. Isn't it just normal to forget about books, I don't think recalling word for word of a book is the only indicator that you've read it.

>students needed to know Greek and Latin to get into top universities 100 years ago
>moderately educated people would quote Shakespeare, Horace and other classics by heart in normal every-day conversation

What lead to the decline of the study of the humanities?
