I am in a similar situation. The worst thing is when a person gets older it is very difficult to make new friends, actual friends, not just getting to know people.
I personally also quit drinking and similar social gatherings because it was leading nowhere. I currently have zero friends or even people close to me other than my family.
Love life is even worse. Having no friends I literally have no one(especially other women friends) to introduce me to women and if I do meet someone new, usually not being social, not going drinking and not having that kind of life, makes a really bad impression.

Sorry for r9k blogpost, but life is just terrible and it doesn't look like it's going to get any better in the future.
Worse still, most genre fiction, my only way if escapism is filled with trannies, and social issues, finding a good book to read is getting harder and harder.
