Be more hipster than he.

Ask if he has read Blank by Davis Schneiderman. And then if he has not shame him and say "YOU KNOW LITTLE OF EXPERIMENTAL LIT YOU POSEUR BITCH PUNK".

But seriously, Experimental lit is fine, but I wouldn't dedicate a whole Contemporaru lit class to it. Maybe just have one. Then have regular contemporary masterpieces like Infinite Jest, etc, etc.

Your teacher sounds silly.

What is /lit/'s opinion on "experimental/artistic" literature.

For example Blank by Davis Schneiderman, a novel in which every page is blank sans the copyright/publisher details page and some pages have chapter titles such as "A character" etc. There is also 20 spaced out pyrographic illustrations in it. The book is 200 pages long.
What is your take on this kind of thing. Would you consider that literature. art, or just some "hipster" bullshit?
