Except there was no reason for the British to surrender. If Hitler did leave those soldiers to escape then he was very stupid since nothing would have ended the war faster than defeating the enemy forces. Yet unless Hitler invaded Britain, there was zero reason to surrender. Conversely the German leaders all knew they had zero (0) chance of not losing, let alone winning in any conceivable fashion and it was all caused by Germanies own actions (invading the USSR and declaring war on the US). Germany lost by far the most amount of soldiers and civilians in 44 and 45 because their leadership decided to drag out a completely lost cause as long as possible. Frankly had he just shot himself a year before(like he probably intended to anyway) he would have saved the world a lot of misery, not less his own people who he claimed to care so much about. They are all correct in their critiques to some degree, but it's this unstated assumption that life as it currently exists is not good enough, that seems to underlie them.
