>”…I don’t agree with those people (literary academics). They assume that the ephemia of today is somehow permanent and important, that we will always have yellow buses and fireplugs. Both of those are false. What is permanent and important is the creations of the human mind - of which buses and fireplugs are only very minor creations - and the physical world. The first of those is what we call fantasy, and the second of those is what we call science fiction when you put it into a literary context. I don’t think reality can be defined as a knife edge in time.”
>”The landscape of fantasy is not the landscape of myth, but of the landscape of the future.”

Unbelievably based.

If Severian is a time traveling Christ figure, then that must be an immaculate conception.

>No. A book should stand on its own instead of just being the stepping stone for something else.
Personally I enjoyed Shadow of the Torturer on my first read and I think most Wolfe fans would agree. If you aren't enjoying the read by the end you won't like the rest, it is not the same as the sunk cost fallacy "it gets good in book 3 bro!" other series have. What's going on is parts that seem cheap or too surrealist (I didn't like how Severian just walks off the Averne flower poison for example) have payoffs in other books, so if that's your only problem and you liked it otherwise then you really should read more. But if that's one complaint among many stacked on a book you don't like, then it's not worth it. Autists are really bothered when they don't have enough to understand something, but read the other books and were OK, and assume anyone else is like them because they have trouble with understanding how other people think. So you'll hear DUDE JUST READ THE OTHER BOOKS until the end of time.

Thread for discussion of Gene Wolfe's works.

When it's not concerning BoTNS+Urth, use spoilerboxes or put the title of the book you're about to spoil in the subject field.
IF YOU HAVE NOT READ BOTNS turn back now or tread carefully, it's best experienced raw.

I've been recently going through Gene Wolfe's bibliography and so far I've read Fifth Head of Cerberus, The Wizard Knight, Long Sun, New Sun, Short Sun and Latro in the Mist. Are all of his other works consistently enjoyable like these ones? I honestly feel like I wouldn't be wasting money if I was to buy his whole library of work.

Is it Sci-Fi or just Fantasy that goes
>bro it’s like, a Post Apoc Sci-Fi world and shit
What books are entailed in the Saga? Because I look around and aside from the main four there’s a bunch of spinoffs. Lastly, is it worth reading as an actual book or is it just good for genre fiction?
