I just read the first few pages of this book, and it feels like hitting close to home. How do I start caring?

This is the best adaptation I've ever seen, it doesn't cut down on what the book is like but instead uses its new medium to the best of its ability. The book and the film are genuinely on equal ground here.
I realise this is a special case and most books could not be adapted like this was, but are there any other adaptations that are as true to the source as this?
