dune was good felt like GoT in space but then he just starts to see through the fabric of the universe and all the major charecters die right at the end and it just killed any desire to continue the series

So for the last 2 months I've been performing my first reading of the original Dune series, which I had never checked up to now. I'm not going to talk about the plot, since most of you would know how amazing it is. I just have one really important question.
I just finished Heretics of Dune, and am ready to proceed to read Chapter House Dune. My question is, should I check also Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune? I'm not a fan of series being concluded by another author (especially by the son of the original one), but I'd like to see how the story ends. What do you think?

Are any of the sequels good or should I stop after the first?

I just finished Dune. I liked it quite a lot. Now I'm wondering, are the sequels near as good as the first entry in the series?

Where should I start? Book of the New Sun?

I want that "reading Dune for the first time" feeling.

I ask here because I sincerely don't know anywhere else to do so and get an answer at any satisfactory speed.

I've been reading Dune the last few days. I'm now reading God-Emperor of Dune and I'm seriously tempted to drop the series now. The whole book has been boring as fuck and I have trouble relating to Leto since there's so little of the character from Children of Dune left, not to mention literally every character from the rest of the series except for Leto is dead. I at least expected Ghanima to be around. Over 130 pages in and I still pretty much have no idea of who Siona is or why should I care besides that she's Moneo's daughter, a rebel and can't be seen with prescience. That has literally been the whole extent of her characterization. Not to mention that the transformation of Arrakis into a verdant world, the decay of Fremen culture and prescience, which had been sources of drama for the last two books, are barely getting any focus. It's also seriously bugging me how Leto treats the Duncan Idaho gholas like disposable toys, and that's not even making me root for the rebels since I still have no idea of who the rebels are or what they do.

In short, will there be any plot advancement at all in God-Emperor of Dune and will Leto keep acting so grossly out-of-character for the last two books?

tl;dr version: Is Dune still relevant/do people give a shit about it? Why or why not?

I would think it's a fairly well-known book, and yet I ever only hear people mention it in passing. Or every once in a while I'll see the Litany Of Fear come up somewhere. I'm not saying it's the best book of all time or anything, but shit man rarely do I hear more then "Oh yeah, that was really good" or "I really liked that book", surely it deserves more credit than that? Maybe I keep talking to the wrong people?

So is Dune considered overrated? Did the Movie/Miniseries combo kill it? Did Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson scare everyone off? I'd like to know /lit/'s opinion.

Hello /lit/, I just finished re-reading Dune(I read it when I was a kid and forgot most of it). Should I read the rest of the series? I've heard the rest aren't as good and that the non Herbert stuff is just teen pandering shit. I really enjoyed Dune, but outside some Asimov short stories I've never really read any real science fiction.

Any recommendations?
Should i read the rest of the Herbert series?
Is Dune Pleb-tier /lit/?

Is Dune worth a read? Or is it sort of like LOTR, where I often hear that the books themselves are tedious, despite their worldbuilding and effect on pop culture?

I read Dune, Dune Messiah, and about 1/2 of Children of Dune back when I was about 13. I decided to re-read them and finish off the series. I'm about 1/2 way through Heretics and will be starting Chapterhouse soon. I was wondering what /lit/ thinks of the "final" two books that Frank's son decided to write.

Should I read them for closure, or are they really as bad as some people lead me to believe?

I just read a book called "Dune" where the kid is born with magic powers and moves to the desert then takes over the whole planet.

it was pretty bad ass, I was told to read "crime and punishment" next

is that good too?

the only other 2 books ive read are the outsiders and the catcher in the rye

What soundtrack do you guys have for each book?

They really make you feel much more immersive. It's almost as if you're there, watching Fremen battling Sadaukars.

Anything Dan Simmons is fantastic. A few other good authors: Frank Herbert, Arthur C. Clark, Orson Scott Card, and Larry Niven, just to get you started.
