>The reason I brought up resources as a term before is that sex can be replaced with any arbitrary resource here. Wanting food is also a consequence of willing to live, so I dont see the distinction from sex here

I wonder how long before consumerism finally has run out of things to eat and will consume itself.

Peter Hitchens has been very explicit that he's not a theocrat, simply religious. How dense do you have to be to automatically conflate those two?

Christianity and its doctrines have done more to inspire egalitarianism and great art than any other single cultural force in history.

no, he's not

>tfw you realize post-irony / new sincerity is not a return to sincerity, but a state of affairs where people have become so emotionally crippled that they can not longer tell the difference between irony and sincerity

It's just like absurdism where you can no longer tell the difference between comedy and tragedy. It's the break down of all Forms.
Plato please save us.

brothers and sisters of foward slash lit forward slash

Philosophy is a poor man's religion.

And literature/poetry is a poor man's philosophy.

The purpose of philosophy and literature are to guide, support, and ornament a religion.

A philosopher without religion is just a failed prophet / guru,

Beneath all philosophy and religion is the advocation of a certain way of life, a set of values. When you admire a certain philosopher or poet you more or less take them to be your guru, your teacher/mentor, the one that tells you how to live your life, what thoughts and emotions to have, what experiences to seek.

The true purpose of art is as decoration for religious rites / ceremonies, and to convey religious teachings.

If you read poetry/lit to achieve "aesthetic bliss" you are a shallow epicure, your religion is pleasure. If you read poetry/lit to discover truths about humanity, you are a queer fellow because why not go to religion/philosophy where these truths are discovered in greater clarity?

btw studying the works of great philosophers / writers throughout history amounts to intellectual tourism / infidelity unless you have a serious scholarly interest in history.

Don't substitute art / literature for religion. The "literary life" is not the good life.
