If you can't see the value in studying humanities, what are you doing on this forum?

OP, it just goes with the linguistic turn and modern democratic relativism veiled as tolerance. "We should only describe the way language IS instead of the pretentious prescriptivists who think that language OUGHT to be a certain way." If you ask me, this is a sad approach to speech and writing, and we ought to all strive to our personal standards of linguistic excellence: colorful vocabulary, proper grammar, and the adventurous attitude of a student rather than the arrogance of "no1 kan judg me lol there's no rite er rong".

Go read some Swift, OP.

It's satirical of philosophies and writing styles.

It's hilariously absurd.

It has a great philosophic lesson of self-cultivation.

It illustrates a journey that many young thinkers experience similarly.

It's, like you said, historically relevant, explicitly referencing events of the period and criticisms brought against Voltaire.

It's an awesome book.

Read this book for what it is, fun experimentation with words. Most people read the first paragraph and think 'pretentious' but you really ought to think 'indulgent'.

So what it doesn't feed us a plot? So what it is labyrinthine? So what it is all a big game? So what? Why waste your thought with such 'so what's'?

Like any other book, if you can't bring yourself to read it, put it down and read something you know you'll like. Once you've read everything you know you'll like, you can pick back up books like these.

And if you haven't read a book, you simply cannot opine about that book.

did you even read my post?

i'm saying people who compile this shit, from physical or digital, are museum curators.

from here, it sounds like you have a pre-occupation with people being "genuine", "people who put ACTUAL EFFORT in to . . . "

you think uploading thousands of songs on to a youtube account is fucking easy? try it, take one thousand songs, edit them to still image video and upload them. it will take you a lot of effort.

museums, databases, dictionaries, encyclopedias, any fucking reference system. these people are creating them, in all these ways. it is irrelevant what they did to compile them, the only thing that matters is the quality of their compilation.
