thoughts on this book?

I agree that there is a lot to be said for geographical determinism, but, Jared (frequently by innuendo) makes the case that this is the ONLY relevant factor that made civilizations advance differently, and he doesn't give credit to the individuals and societies that evolved to make it happen. He also claims that civilization is dysgenic, which is quite contrary to the evidence, and uses this to explain his very original observation that Papua New Guineans are more intelligent than white Americans.

It all seemed weird, pompous and speculative to me, and I especially thought it was and is over-rated.

Fast forward to today, watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvaxPH3ftUQ and it all came crashing down. Not only is Jared basically a Papua New Guineaboo, he makes factually vapid and often wrong claims all over the place: examples include his assertion that there weren't domesticable animals in Africa or the Americas, and that the grains in the fertile valley crescent and asia were so much better and more able to be cultivated and selectively breeded. Mr. Diamond never did basic research, he just ran with whatever plausibly might support his theory, which is again in service of racial ideology that poses that civilized people are dumb and dont deserve what they have, especially not more than the noble savages.
