>Yfw plebs who didn't understand the theme of the story and threw a shit fit because roland didn't kill the devil and win everything forever or some random horseshit when he made it to the tower.

so /lit/, I just finished reading Stephen King's The Dark Tower series
what is your opinion of it?

I loved it, but I'm also a pleb - the only authors I've read outside of a classroom are this, Ian Fleming, and William Gibson. The only part I felt let down by, was how there was such a huge build up to the Mordred confrontation - and then it was just 'he kills a dog, gets shot and dies.' It felt like there should have been a scene where Roland feels something there, at least more than 'his body burned in the fire and it smelled bad.' But overall I thought it was great, 10/10, would read again.

Did anyone else feel like the Dark Tower ended poorly? I wanted so much for a great exciting end for all of Roland's work to end, and then he left us off. Also did anyone feel like the last book wasn't as good as the others? I didn't really like the dimension thing...

What's /lit/s opinion on the Dark Tower series? I'm a big Stephen King fan and I love the Dark Tower series most out of his entire library. Has anyone else read all 7 and have any thoughts? I know Stephen King is plep trash but whatevs.

This series is really beautifully imagined. How dare anyone criticize King after reading this masterful work.

I just finished "The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower". I cried like a baby for 20 minutes. This might be the best series I've ever read.

Just read the whole series again (including the little sisters of eluria)

Have to say this has got to be my favorite book series of all time. Not only because its fun to read but also because of the ending which truly tied the knot for me:

SPOILER ON ENDING:

I think this was perfect because with every book they force some ending on it whether it be good or bad to the original plot, any ending seems 'fake' if that makes sense.

This one however had enough gall to say "there is no ending, there is no absolution, everything is repeated but hey heres something different." and as a reader I think that has got to be the best gift a writer can give me. It allows me to keep wondering what happens to Roland and let me know that anything can be possible, there is no absolution, it's not just King's story, it's evolved to our own.

So any other tower junkies out there?

Am I the only one who thinks this series started with some of King's best work and ended with some of his worst?

Been reading the entire saga for 7 months. Finished it yesterday. I must say that I loved reading those books even if the ending is quite awkward (but still good). I'd like your opinion on this saga for those who read it.

I'm the second book into this series and I've been enjoying thoroughly. However, I'm not sure If i should keep going, since a lot of people say King goes full retard with the ending. I kind of want to pick up GoT. Should I just drop Dark Tower?

I'm a casual reader and it will probably take me years to finish either series.

Books/series that have left a lasting impression on you and the way you think/feel about the world thread.
For me I think The Dark Tower series had a huge impact on the way I've thought since I finished it. I feel like I've sort of taken on a philosophy sort of like Roland's (take it as it comes, move along steadily, not too quickly, not too slowly, do what you must, but keep your eye on the prize). And back when I first read 1984 and Brave New World I became a punk for a few weeks but that was just embarrassing.

Is the Dark Tower series worth a read?
I'm only asking this because I don't want to invest an enormous amount of time into reading all 7 books only to discover its shit.
