/lit/ - Literature

So I've been reading the Penguin Classics translation of the Woman in the Dunes by Kobo Abe recently, and though I've been enjoying it, there's something about the way things are phrased that is slightly stilted and jarring.
Although I haven't experienced it so much with Ishiguro or Murakami, I remember having the same issues when reading Temple of the Golden Pavilion in translation, and it has me wondering if Japanese simply loses much of its impact when translated. I mean, I know that all translations lose a bit of the original charm, but I find Japanese translations to an extreme example. Anyone else experience this?

This book epitomizes the theme of loneliness in society and the author really seems to understand the nature of society. It is a very psychological novel, and the author was very intelligent, so it may not be a good one to start with in Japanese lit. Actually, Musashi was my first intro to Japanese lit. It isn't pulpy at all--it is more of an epic, and I highly recommend it. If you want any suggestions, see this image

I looked on the /lit/ wiki but the only Asian culture on there is Japan. Maybe one of you has a copy?

Which ones had scarce information? I think everyone on there has Wikipedia pages at the very least. Most all of them have Amazon descriptions too.
