How can I start with the pre socratics? Any books or videos?

Did the pre-socratics write something? Is it a good idea start with them?

I cannot get over my idea that philosophy is a trash field because there is no information piling up and leading to a new thing. latest and most clear example of this to me was reading about Parmenides. he simply said thinking was being, it is literally the same thing that Descartes is famous for "I think therefore I am", practically he ripped Parmenides off.

and their world, Parmenides thought the universe was a solid, unchanging monolithic existence. how is that different from Descartes' mechanical world that did not need an external touch to function? Parmenides said the same thing one thousand year ago yet anyone who gets involved with philosophy will find Descartes as the founder of modernism.

is there an error in my thinking? for all intents and purposes Parmenides should be considered as the father of modernism if the biggest ideas of Descartes are considered to be the engine of thought that lead to modern thought in philosophy.

Logic says it’s impossible for being to become nonbeing and nonbeing to become being without producing contradictions. The senses show that things come in and out of existence constantly. So either the senses are false or logic is. What do I think?

This. Parmenides, Heraclitus, Anaximander, and Protagoras pretty much ended philosophy before it even began, and only over 2000 years after them did we realise the sheer magnitude of knowledge and insights these guys caught on.

Plato was a detraction of philosophy, not its pillar.
