I read somewhere that "The Fortress of the Pearl" is practically filler. But I still want to read anything Elric. How would you rate the series overall? I really liked the first book, I ended it in a single evening.

What does /lit/ think of Elric? It's usually put in the top 5 or so of fantasy but there is very little discussion or writing about it online.

I just read it for the first time and loved it although it gets repetitive and cash-grabby for a long stretch in the middle when read in chronological order.

Is there any SF equivalent type of protagonist? Looking for something new to read and I don't touch SF very often. Appreciate the input.
