I read the Tao Te ching from an observer point of view.

I truly believe one has to be born and raised in Chinese// Korean and initiated into eastern "spiritualism" to truly understand the "Tao"

Its not for westerners born in a completely different culture.
If you want enlightenment try Greek Philosophy/ mysticism like Stoicism, Neo Platonism, hermetic Philosophy

"Food of the Gods" by Terence Mckenna is one of the more intelligent and highly creative of the "new age" stream (I don't even really consider it a part of it really).

"The Dancing Wu Li Masters" is a pretty interesting new agey look into quantum mechanics and shit.

W.B. Yeats' poetry was basically one large occultic experiment (seriously if Yeats was alive today he'd be in his college's wiccan club and he'd constantly rant about how quantum mechanics proves his theories on buddhist mysticism correct). He even wrote a prose book to explain some things, "A Vision" - it's basically the epitome of indiscernible occult babblings.
