I just went to the library and they have only pic related edition. I know penguin translations are shit most of the time so what do you think about this one? Which edition is the best translation?

Also my library doesn't have French language edition. Please let me know if you find a good site for french version.

>The Count of Monte Cristo

I'm about 4/5ths of the way done, and all of these long threads are finally paying off.

This book is so fucking GOOD. Dumas was such a talented writer.

I just bought this, it's in the mail, I got the unabridged paperback version a little worried about the size.

I've read Les Miserables before, so I'm not stranger to large books, but is this shit going to be hard to read paperback? Is the story going to be exciting all the way through or am I going to have to sit through a bunch of boring essays by Mr. Dumas?

I'm just asking this because I know almost nothing about this book.

Big books general I suppose.

Does /lit/ think this is worth reading? If not, could you recommend me some other, similar books?

I am 242 pages into this beast, and so far it's easily the most involving novel I've read in years. I know it's frequently cited as a "favorite novel", and usually makes any top 100 list.

I can't put my finger on why I like it so much, though, since I already knew the plot, am reading it in translation, and never really cared about the historical period it takes place in. /lit/, what do you think is so great about it?
