What do people think of her? I liked White Teeth quite a lot, 5/10, but dunno about her other books. Could suck, could rock. Hysterical realism is a good subgenre.

Stick to the story. As you write it conflicts and side notes will pop-up along the way out of necessity. Think of all the normal things that your characters have to do. Cook food, get fire wood, pay tolls, pass through towns. All these things are opportunities for shit to go awry and showcase things you want. But only do a few as to over saturate could make your book very lame.

Who's your favorite short story author?

You know what the worst thing about the author is? How slowly we're getting his books. Translating them from inferior Spanish to superior English takes time, and printing them in paperback (later than hardcover) takes time. I buy his stuff as soon as it comes out in paperback, but it's slow.

Also, post your favourite and least favourite book by him. 2666 and Monseuir Pain for me, respectively.

If they're bad with the opposite sex, they write a pimp who fucks everything with boobs. If they're weedy and weak, they write tall and strong people who win fights. If they're too afraid to take drugs for fear of the police / their health / what their social circle thinks, they write about someone who starts doing weed, acid, coke, and other drugs.

I've been thinking about this for several years, and I think I prefer Amazon. Simply put, there's a MUCH better range on there. About half of the time in a shop, I can find what I want, buy 90% of the time I can find what I want on Amazon, which is nice. With shops I usually have to compromise, but not so with Amazon. Also, buying online is a little bit cheaper.
