Venus

Her barbéd petals, like lashes on green eyes,
call seductively, cajoling foolish flies
and spiders to abandon, assuring
nothing harmful could come from something so alluring.

Timidly, a single ant suggests
that there's no problem with an innocent caress
and unaware his plan is suicidal
he goes to worship her, his newfound idol.

Briefly, the ant gives himself pause
before moving onward, deep into her jaws.
She quietly shivers with anticipation
as he goes on in naive adulation.

And in the corner of her mouth collects a pool
of tiny dewdrops, glistening like drool.
