I do not cite sources in any of my writing, because outside of hard sciences, it is a meaningless gesture.
All journalism, commentary, academic work, etc., is just a form of spreading a teleological narrative and storytelling, and is functionally identical to fiction.
The only purpose of citation as a practice is for gatekeeping the uncouth outside the "intellectual elite", from participating in the "discourse", and discrediting them if they don't cite literature written by that same group. It is a participation tax, an initiation ritual, a social signal, meant to keep the unworthy out. The most powerful tool of influencing opinions and constructing a narrative is not deception, but selective application of "truth".
By the way, I exclude statistical "research" from the category of hard science, because gathering and interpreting data is just another form of selective representation.

"Do you have a source for your claims?"
Shut the fuck up.
