For an adaption to not suck I think it would have to be a passion project of insane magnitude. I know people said the same thing about LotR, but in this case I think every trick in the book of live action is not enough to pull it off. You would need high quality animation and then use every trick in the book of animation.

But let's be real: we will likely witness Shadow getting an adaption in the next 25 years and it will suck.
