Many modern horror authors cite Kafka as one of their primary influences, Ligotti for example.

This. Ligotti also isn't afraid to acknowledge /lit/cels as his allies, unlike the rest of the big name authors who are sanitized normoids.
>Neddal Ayad: Incidentally, do you notice much of a gender split in your readership?
>Thomas Ligotti: It’s pretty much all maladjusted guys with advanced university degrees, although there are some outstanding female exceptions with advanced degrees and literary talents. They’re not what people think of as nerds living in their parents’ basements. The ones with whom I’ve been in contact over the years live far more normal lives than I do. In any case, I’d like to put in a good word for nerds living in their parents’ basement — they’re an undeservedly maligned subculture that I’m proud to count among my readers if they’re out there.

There's an interview with Ligotti's former female colleague somewhere - he used to work in publishing office during 80s and early 90s - and she says that Ligotti was a smart cutie with nice hair and every woman there wanted to fuck him, even the marrried ones, but he didn't seem to be interested. She was shocked to read his novella My Work Is Not Yet Done, published shortly after he left the job - it's about a disgruntled office wagie planning a shooting spree at work, kek.

Ligotti is too pessimistic for mainstream recognition (he seethes about it in CatHR), normie breeders can't separate his art from his antinatalism. To be fair, he does insist on inserting philosophy into every short story past the early ones and that's why I love him

Sleep well, pigger.

You can still make something with your life, Anon. Ligotti fried his brain with drugs as a teenager too and he's become one of the prominent modern horror writers.

Most likely, just look up private lives of your favorite fiction writers, vast majority of them were fucked up in some way: recluses, weirdos, schizos, assholes, addicts, simps/cucks etc. Mentally and socially well-adjusted people simply won't dedicate themselves to solitary purusit like writing.

Thomas Ligotti's works will stick with you with their nightmarish existentialism, also read his nonfiction because the dude has a really disturbing worldview too.
