>I wish I understood this modern obsession with transcendental experience.
I dunno anon, maybe it has to do with the dehumanizing aspects of modernity, the disconnect that people feel from the world and their community because of modern economies and cities, and with the near-constant mocking and 'debunking' of religion that one encounters in the media and education system which has the effect of devaluing spirituality for many people

>It's like everyone wants to be a prophet.
prophet implies something very special and unique, a once in a thousand years occurrence, there is nothing that special about transcendental experiences, they are open to anyone who seeks them and having one doesn't make one a superior being, if anything they have a humbling effect

I really struggle with reading for extended amounts of time at home, I get most of it done on the subway. I've been diagnosed with ADHD and have a Vyvanse prescription for it but have procrastinated on getting it filled for the last 6 months. I am going to finally get it this week, 2019 will be the year I get back on the reading train. I've already managed to go cold turkey on video games, this will be the next step.
