Totalitarianism is perfect when the leaders are perfect. Of course it's unrealistic, and Plato realized this. Besides all the bad things that can be said about totalitarian societies, they do have their strong points when they're run well.

Case in point- Singapore, where you can go to prison for chewing gum and the penalty for drug trafficking is death, is one of the cleanest, safest cities on the planet.

Plato's musing about a totalitarian Utopia is a poor reason to dismiss Republic.
