Well, you've picked the wrong medium.

Books are about the interiors of characters and the dialogue between them, mostly. There are books which are exceptions to this, but for the most part that's the idea.

The best you could do here, if you wanted to be wacky, was find a bunch of funny ways to describe places and things. Something like "His demeanor was that of an elderly circus dolphin, his clothes looking like they were made from brown lunch-bag material".

I just jotted that down in 20 seconds, but you get my point here. It's sorta funny, the comparisons are weird, they give you an idea of who the person is.

If you find yourself doing much more than a few sentences every page describing something, you have fucked up though. You need to learn to describe things more succinctly or find a new medium.

I'm having issues getting immersed, any advice on increasing it? I recently got back into fiction so it went from zero to normal to zeroish again. It's not exactly zero because I can visualize as I read. I'm not getting in the zone basically if that makes sense, I'm not slipping away like I used to. It used to feel like I'd vanish and I'd forget I'm reading and it was like a movie. Now it feels like active reading.

You can do both. I did a lot of drinking and partying at the end of high school and into college. I still had a lot of periods of loneliness though, and it took a lot of therapy and reflection to get to a more stable place. There's not much of a nostalgia for it, like you guys might feel depressed about "what could have been" but the reality is that these isolated moments of fun are often forgotten just like the rest of your memories. And they don't act as a magic shield against the infection of loneliness.

That being said I wouldn't take any of it back. Also I'm getting into reading now which is why I'm here, because as much partying and fun I had in college now it's been a year and I have literally no one, because I've been through a breakup. I think this is just the nature of social life, sometimes it's high tide sometimes it's low tide and that's ok.

Friendly reminder that reading stuff that you are not interested in and doesnt stimulate you and only read it because you are "supposed" to is retarded because you will not actually engage with the text
Only after you realize you need some kind of background to understand that which really has your attention reading other things that are not so much of your interest will make sense
Your brain and intellect just doesnt work without the fuel of instinct
Even if this means some people will only read YA and pop philosophy this is fine because they are either too dumb for better stuff or it will lead them to better stuff
The only exception to this is the greeks (maybe)
Encyclopedic knowledge just for the sake of it is just an expression of insecurity and a need for validation from some kind of authority which is only alive based in external moral values, which makes anyone who uses it as a source of validation and ethical and moral compass instantly the complete opposite of a free thinker

twinkle twinkle little star
wagecuck paying off his car

he bought a brand new camry
and gets fleeced by usury

stress about a house payment
and the weeds in his pav'ment

he sees me with no worries
and can't afford groceries

he's balding and getting fat
while I hang out with my cat

his wife spends all his money
and will get alimony

his co workers despise him
he'll get fired on a whim

he'll put a gun to his head
as I'm going off to bed

>Now that he was alone, he directed his eyes, not without pleasure, at his bed, which reached almost to the ceiling. It was obvious that Fetinya was an expert at fluffing up feather beds. When, after bringing a chair up close, he climbed on to the bed, it sank beneath him almost to the very floor, and the feathers, squeezed out of their confines, flew about into every corner of the room. After dousing the candle, he drew the cotton quilt over him, and curling up into a pretzel under it, promptly fell asleep.

Just wanted to share this comfy Gogol with you.

It is much more convenient to use an ereader.

>have access to your whole library wherever you are
>is light
>every book holds the same
>books are easy to acquire

Plus I don't have friends to show my shelfs to anyway.

Hello /lit/,
I am looking for fiction about loneliness, isolation, solitude, alienation. I want the main character to be hyper-introspective and sensitive individual who physically lives in a society (town, city) and has some kind of a job etc. but mentally doesn't really fit. I don't care if its psychological fiction, literary, philosophical allegory, detective story or a historical novel. I don't care if its happy or depressing, I don't care if its set in 19th century or 2050. I'd prefer if the guy wasn't too bitter, hateful, mentally ill or weird (Notes from Underground by Dosto, Whatever by Houellebecq, Stranger by Camus). I want somebody a bit more nuanced, functional, better-adjusted. Somebody who's trying to find his way in life, you know.

Thanks.

>inb4 you want to read about yourself
its for research and inspiration...mostly

I totes did in my last novel.

Her flavour tonight is GAY BUKKAKE PARTY HOT BLACK MEN. One of the guys looks a bit like Richard. The 'twink'. Melanie absent-mindedly starts to masturbate, rubbing the front of her panties with some interest. She starts to undress and finds a spot of blood on the inside and sighs and tells herself that after this, honest, she'll put a tampon in. After this. Always has a kick to it schlicking while high, it's
fuck, asleep again
she's on her side, fingers damp, hair in the ketchup. There's a mostly empty bottle of beer on the floor and she finishes it off and then takes the duvet and upends it, spilling food everywhere. Melanie is safe inside her fortress. There's still gay porn on her laptop, which is now upside down on the floor. The sound of UNF UNF FUCK YES FUCK YES YOU LITTLE BITCH TAKE IT YOU LIKE THAT DON'T YOU YOU FUCKING FAGGOT fills her apartment.

My last gf was super catholic and she broke up with me because I am Protestant. She told me that she was worried I could go to hell?
What's the big deal? Why is there such rage against Protestants? I can see it the other way, but jesus.

It still seems strange to me that they are put on such a pedastle. I dont worship Mary, or even consider her as some kind of middleman for prayer. As an outsider looking in, it does seem very paganisitic.
