A lot of people think Dune Messiah is the weakest one. It's worth trying Children of Dune at least, as that is very different in style from Messiah. Personally I think it's the weakest book of the 6 (far more than Messiah) but that's not the general opinion.

God, the Dune series is so fucking good. I just wish I got the courage to read it earlier.

I just finished Children of Dune, and despite what's written in the chart, I liked it a lot. I'm gearing up for God Emperor now. I originally planned to stop after finishing that, but I might read the last two books as well.

This guide is accurate. I started reading Dune a few years ago (surprsingly my mom got really into it too) and our interest naturally fizzled out 1/4 of the way through the fifth book.

I'm reading Dune finally and I was expecting it to get weird eventually, I just didn't think Paul would suddenly start seeing infinite futures suddenly not even half way through the book. It was a pretty jarring segment for something that was a bit more grounded up to there.
