Anyone know of any good books that are written accounts of a regular person’s experience of watching their society transform into a totalitarian hellscape?
Serious question, like maybe a Cambodian or a Russian or Chinese person or something. I know the Gulag Archipelago but that is, as the title suggests, more focused on his experience in the gulag system than the social upheaval preceding the gulag

Is reading too much philosophy bound to lead towards existential depression or are certain kinds of people just prone to react in that manner?
I feel like every work of philosophy from 1600 onward should come with a warning label

I want a masters in mental health counseling so I can be a psychotherapist .

Right now I've started my junior year as an English major and will still have a chance to get into that masters program. Should I switch my major to psychology instead so I can learn more about psychology?

While psychology is more interesting to me, I've wasted enough time as is in college and this switch would take even more time (and money). Could I get the same education reading Jung and Freud in my off time?

You raise multiple good questions. I didn’t even think about it that deeply. I suppose I really am just taking part in the system because it’s the best route to a comfortable life. I have no emotional or ideological attachment to the free market. I am simply for whatever system gives me the best chance to provide for myself, and that system just happens to be capitalism. If that makes sense
