When people think of war literature, many focus on just the past 100 years, but I'm hoping for works that encompass all the great conflicts.

Perhaps Life and Fate?

What do you intend to read over summer, /lit/?

I'm going to try to read War and Peace, followed up by Life and Fate.

My contribution: Life and Fate.

Great portrayal of the Russian side during the siege of Stalingrad, and the underlying issues of the communist regime, mainly focusing on an extended family across Russia in differing positions (from POWS to scientists)

Some heart-wrenching moments, especially since it was partially autobiographical. Also a wake up call to readers that at that time it wasn't just the Nazis that despised the jews.

So kids. This is my first post on /lit/. But guess what? I just finished Life and Fate after about 3 months of reading. Fucking finished it. And you know what? Possibly the best book I've ever read, I think it ties with Jitterbug Perfume. What do you folks have to say about it?
